Brenden Aaronson’s days are numbered as Leeds eye Azzedine Ounahi transfer

Brenden Aaronson is looking increasingly likely to be replaced at Leeds United.

The Whites will have full focus on the summer transfer window now that the season has concluded, with the goal of establishing themselves in the Premier League for another campaign.

To achieve that, Daniel Farke will need to see the depth improved across all areas of his squad, while also ensuring that the quality goes up a notch.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin aside, the Whites have struggled for goals, with a lack of creativity often a big part of that.

Leeds have identified Azzedine Ounahi as a potential recruit to change that, though any deal is likely to spell bad news for Aaronson.

Could Azzedine Ounahi replace Brenden Aaronson?

Whether it’s Ounahi or not, Leeds will almost certainly look to replace Aaronson this summer and bring someone in who can create more from open play.

The USNMT international has created 33 chances from 29 starts, with a total xA of 3.34 in the Premier League.

Ounahi has created 35 in nine fewer starts in LaLiga while playing for relegated Girona, while also having created two more big chances.

His xA comes in at 4.42, showcasing the increase in creativity when it comes to his style of play.

Ounahi also offers much more on the ball, as showcased by his 69 completed dribbles, which is over double what Aaronson has managed for Leeds this season, and again that is despite the fact that the latter has had more gametime.

Leeds had long been admirers of Ounahi, and this summer could be their chance to strike a deal.

Leeds set to face Aaronson dilemma

Replacing him is one thing, but Leeds will need to make a decision on his future this summer.

Aaronson will have just one year left on his contract come the end of the campaign, meaning this summer may well be the last chance they have to cash in on him.

Leeds paid a fee in the region of £25million back in 2022, and if a deal were to be sanctioned this summer, there is a chance they could recoup the majority of that fee or even make a profit.
