Archie Gray: Ex-Leeds United star responds directly to talk of Elland Road return

Archie Gray may always be a fan favourite at Leeds United, with the former Whites star hailing from the coveted Gray family.

The now 20-year-old spent 10 years at Elland Road between 2014 and 2024, where he burst into the first team at just 17 years old.

His performances for the Whites caught plenty of attention, eventually earning him a move to Tottenham Hotspur, who were playing in European competitions in 2024.

This campaign has not gone quite to plan for Gray, with his current employers narrowly avoiding relegation on the final day of the season.

Amid that relegation fight, transfer talk of a Gray return to Leeds had begun emerging if Tottenham were relegated. Now, Gray has directly responded to talk of coming back to LS11.

How has Archie Gray responded to talk of Leeds United return?

A Gray return to Leeds United is not entirely ruled out, but it will likely not be anytime in the near future.

The midfielder still has a long-term contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and there is no buy-back clause in the deal that saw him initially make the switch.

However, with the Gray family having such a long history in LS11, talks of a return are always going to be rampant, and the 20-year-old has directly responded to such suggestions.

Gray, who was featuring at James Maddison’s golf invitational for dementia on 26 May, appeared on talkSPORT with Andy Goldstein, putting the question towards him.

The presenter asked him: “If Leeds come in for you, you go back there with open arms right?”

Gray clearly wished to move on quickly from the line of question, sheepishly stating: “I’m happy at Spurs right now. I’m contracted.”

So, now Leeds fans have got a direct response from the man himself, although he also reiterated his love for the Whites as well.

What did Archie Gray say about Leeds?

Gray, while downplaying a return as you would expect, still has the Whites in his heart, saying that he still supports the Elland Road outfit.

Darren Bent, who is an Arsenal fan despite playing for Tottenham, stated that support “goes out the window” when you become a footballer.

However, Gray insisted that he “doesn’t agree with that”, later stating that he is now both a “Leeds and Spurs” fan.

A return now may not be on the cards, but if the Whites can begin showing ambition, and perhaps pip Tottenham to those European spots on a consistent basis, down the line it could happen. Gray still follows Leeds after all.
