Daniel Farke: Leeds United sack likely after relegation but 49ers Enterprises may want him to stay

Daniel Farke is unlikely to stay at Leeds United if he can’t avoid Premier League relegation at Elland Road this season.

Adam Pope feels the German manager’s departure will be inevitable in case the Whites fail to secure their top-flight status in the final seven league matches of the 2025-26 campaign.

While some fans would certainly want the 49-year-old head coach gone if the West Yorkshire outfit go down, the BBC journalist can see a world in which Paraag Marathe opts to keep him to secure promotion once again.

Farke retains 49ers Enterprises’ support and he may be seen as the right man to lead the Peacocks in the Championship if they suffer heartbreak this season.

Leeds United dilemma on cards in the summer regardless of relegation

Leeds contemplated Farke’s exit last summer despite winning the Championship title, highlighting the lack of faith some in the boardroom possibly have in him.

It would’ve been a shame to see the 49ers replace the German manager after a special end to last season, as he deserved a chance to prove his doubters wrong.

Everyone is aware of Farke’s poor record with Norwich City in the Premier League, but he’s shown a different dimension to his management in the current campaign.

The Whites looked in serious trouble midway through the season before they switched their system and tactics against Manchester City in November.

Leeds United have a favourable run-in

Regardless of which division the West Yorkshire outfit will be playing in, there will undoubtedly be talk about Farke’s future in LS11 in the coming months.

Writing in BBC Sport on 27 March, Pope said, “It’s unlikely he stays in the event of relegation. However, he retains the support of his employers at present, so there is an argument that if the board remains committed to the style of football it wanted played to win promotion last time around — which was aggressive, with wingers, and designed to dominate games — it may feel Farke is best suited to provide that again, as he was the preferred candidate from the original selection when he arrived in July 2023.”

Daniel Farke can use Norwich City example, this time to his advantage

Farke indeed seemed out of his depth managing Norwich in the English top flight, but he did win promotion with them twice.

After the Canaries were relegated from the Premier League in 2020, they stuck by the German manager, who secured an immediate return to the top flight.

The 49ers may look at that record and wonder whether the former Norwich boss could be the right person to lead them next season if they do go down.

As things stand, the Peacocks are four points above the drop zone and return to Premier League action on 13 April against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
