Wilfried Gnonto future at Leeds United to become clear as Premier League risk minimises
Wilfried Gnonto’s future is certainly in question at Leeds United, with his minutes dwindled over the course of the season.
The young forward has been at Elland Road since 2022, and his talent early on made supporters feel the world was at his feet.
While he may still have plenty to give, and he could still reach those heights, this campaign has certainly proven to be a stumbling block for his career.
Gnonto has barely featured for Leeds under Daniel Farke, and trust in the winger seems to be quite low.
However, ahead of Leeds’ final Premier League matches, the door could open for Gnonto to prove his manager wrong.

How Wilfried Gnonto could have final Leeds United chance
Gnonto has failed to imprint himself into Leeds’ starting lineup this season, and that could be largely down to the Whites switching to a three-man defence.
In that formation, the LS11 outfit does not have space for natural wingers, with the wingbacks operating as the width for Farke.
| Wilfried Gnonto’s lack of game time | Total |
| Premier League appearances | 20 |
| Minutes per appearance | 23 |
| Total Premier League minutes | 457 |
The 22-year-old may not be as suited to the wide number 10 role that Leeds have been using.
Instead, Gnonto has had to settle for cameo appearances, and while the Italian international has impressed on occasion, it has not been enough to convince his manager of his talents.
The German was likely unwilling to risk playing an attacker who he simply did not trust, nor one who did not naturally fit into his formation. Gnonto has just four Premier League starts.
However, as Leeds move closer to confirming Premier League survival, there is little at risk for the Elland Road outfit.
Farke could use some of the final games, once survival is official, to give his fringe players an audition ahead of next season.
Gnonto could then be in for his final chance to prove himself, or else he may have to seek a move elsewhere if he wants more game time.

Who else could be handed Leeds chance?
If the Whites are to confirm their Premier League status, then there are plenty of others who could be handed a rare opportunity.
Like Gnonto, Dan James has struggled to get minutes, but he has also faced multiple injury issues this season.
Meanwhile, Sebastiaan Bornauw, who looks to be on his way out, could find himself with added minutes under his belt.

Sam Byram could be handed a chance to wave goodbye to the Elland Road faithful, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
Farke could also turn to some youth players and dish out some valuable Premier League experience if he feels they could have a role to play next year.
