Leeds United could damage Tottenham’s survival hopes this weekend.

The Whites are all but safe in the Premier League for another year, though Daniel Farke will be looking to make absolutely sure of it this weekend.

Safety could be confirmed before Leeds even take to the pitch against Spurs if West Ham suffer defeat against Arsenal, but if not, a win against Tottenham would do the trick.

The North Londoners have the joint-worst home record in the Premier League this season, with just two wins, and that should spark optimism.

However, Leeds also have an added incentive against Tottenham this weekend after what happened back in 2023.

Leeds out to take back what they lost three years ago

Leeds United are no strangers to relegation battles, but this season looks to be one of them, where they manage to get over the line.

However, that wasn’t the case back in 2023, when they dropped back into the Championship under Sam Allardyce.

In the end, the Whites were five points from safety, but it was a 4-1 defeat at home to Tottenham that confirmed their relegation, which is unlikely to be the case this season.

Harry Kane bagged a brace at Elland Road that day, with Jack Harrison on the scoresheet for the Whites.

But with the roles very much reversed this season, Leeds must take into account the hurt that they felt from that defeat, and inflict it on the North Londoners, who could find themselves back in the bottom three.

Which current Leeds players suffered relegation in 2023?

Leeds United’s squad looks very different now from the one that dropped back into the Championship three years ago.

But it’s fair to say that it is different for all of the right reasons.

Of the players to have featured that day, only Pascal Struijk, Willy Gnonto and Brenden Aaronson are still at Elland Road, while Harrison also remains under contract.

They will be well aware of the significance this fixture had three years ago, and they will be even more aware of it this time around.
