Leeds United not quite there as supercomputer updates Premier League relegation prediction

Leeds United are still not officially safe from Premier League relegation with three rounds of fixtures to play.

The Whites kept their good run of form going in the top flight with a 3-1 win over Burnley on Friday evening.

That win extended Leeds’ unbeaten run to six matches in the league and took them nine points clear of Tottenham in the one remaining relegation spot.

However, Spurs’ win over Aston Villa on Sunday night means United fans cannot celebrate another season of top-flight football just yet.

But that day will surely come soon, perhaps even before Leeds’ trip to Tottenham next week, amid a new supercomputer update.

Leeds have extremely slim chance of being relegated

Daniel Farke appeared to have an extra pep in his step at full-time after the win over Burnley, with the German fully aware of the significance of the result.

It means that barring a calamitous end to the campaign that would see Leeds lose all three remaining games, plus a whole host of results for rival teams going their way, United will stay up.

Indeed, Leeds’ survival could be confirmed before they are even next in action, as West Ham require at least a point at home to leaders Arsenal next Sunday.

In the unlikely scenario that West Ham do get something from that match, Leeds will then require a point away at Tottenham the following day.

Only if Leeds were to lose that game would things become even remotely nervy for Farke’s men.

That is reflected in Opta Analyst‘s updated supercomputer prediction after the latest set of games, as Leeds are given just a 0.11 per cent chance of going down.

That is a slight increase on the 0.06 per cent chance they were given on the back of beating Burnley on Friday, but certainly not even close to being a figure fans will concern themselves with.

Crystal Palace are given a 0.03 per cent chance of going down, meanwhile, and Nottingham Forest 2.36 per cent.

Then comes Tottenham on 20.73 per cent and West Ham – the new favourites to join Wolves and Burnley in being relegated – on 76.77 per cent after their loss to Brentford.

What is Leeds’ predicted finish in the Premier League?

This time next week, Leeds should be preparing for a stress-free trip to Tottenham with safety already confirmed.

Spurs have a dreadful home record, so three points will be the target in North London either way.

Then comes Brighton at home and West Ham away, so there are three winnable fixtures left to come for the Whites.

That goes some way to explaining why Farke’s men are actually forecasted to finish ninth by Opta on 52 points.

The supercomputer has Leeds down to see out the season with three wins from three based on various permutations.

That really would be the icing on the cake of an impressive season. First thing’s first, though: ensure those slimmest of relegation fears are put firmly to bed.
