Leeds United need Dominic Calvert-Lewin to start scoring earlier in games

Leeds United are going to require Dominic Calvert-Lewin to start impacting games quicker, as he’s yet to score a Premier League goal in the opening 30 minutes this season.

The 29-year-old has been a brilliant signing by Leeds, and undoubtedly ranks as one of the top bargain buys of the 2025-26 Premier League season.

Picked up from the proverbial free agent scrapheap after exiting Everton upon the expiration of his contract, Calvert-Lewin has reignited his stagnating career at Elland Road.

11 goals in all competitions has seen him establish himself as a key player in Daniel Farke‘s side, and has put him back in the England mix too.

So, with just seven league games to play, the big centre-forward is set to continue playing a key part in Leeds’ relegation run-in.

When has Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his Leeds goals?

Calvert-Lewin has been reborn at Leeds, with 10 Premier League goals in 28 games for the Whites this season.

As such, he’s lead the line better than the vast majority of the Elland Road faithful thought he would, and looks capable of continuing to do so in the years to come should the Club remain a top-flight outfit.

However, if Leeds are to do so, then they’re probably going to have to pick up a few more points to bolster their current tally of 33.

Many eyes will turn towards Calvert-Lewin in the hope and expectation that he’ll provide the goals to deliver them, but despite how good he’s been for Leeds this year, there is one element of his game that he could improve on.

Indeed, of his 10 league goals this season, none of those have arrived in the opening 30 minutes of games, with the earliest he’s scored being against Wolves in the 31st minute of their 3-1 win on matchday five.

The next earliest goal he’s bagged was in the 38th minute against Crystal Palace on matchday 17, but aside from those two, all of his other eight goals have been scored with more than 45 minutes on the clock.

Calvert-Lewin can help Leeds get ahead of the eight ball

It goes without saying, but the earlier you can open the scoring, the sooner you can take control of a football match.

Early goals can do so much to settle the nerves and set your team up for some kind of a result in the game, and that only becomes more important the later into the season you go.

So much is riding on every match now, with every point won or dropped having the potential to make all the difference in the final standings.

Therefore, if Calvert-Lewin can just start getting into a habit of finding the net earlier in games, there won’t be as much pressure on him later in matches to do what he was brought to West Yorkshire to do: score goals and win Leeds points.
