Leeds United: Mark Schwarzer reacts to ‘crazy’ Gabriel Gudmundsson scenes at Selhurst Park
Mark Schwarzer says the incident that saw Gabriel Gudmundsson sent off in Leeds United‘s clash with Crystal Palace was “crazy”.
Gudmundsson was issued a second yellow card by referee Thomas Bramall shortly before half-time in Sunday’s Premier League contest at Selhurst Park.
Bramall initially appeared to forget that Gudmundsson had already been cautioned, leading to fury from Palace’s players.
However, Bramall reached into his back pocket in a decision that changed the complexity of Leeds’ clash with Palace, with the Whites being more than happy to settle for a point in a goalless draw.

What exactly happened with Gabriel Gudmundsson incident?
Already on a yellow card, Gudmundsson caught Ismaila Sarr on the ankle and could not really have any complaints about being shown another.
Bramall’s forgetfulness is what sparked the bizarre scenes in what could have been a repeat of Graham Poll’s howler at the 2006 World Cup when booking a player three times.
In the end no damage was done in that regard as Bramall gave Gudmundsson his marching orders, leaving Leeds with 10 men for more than half the game.
Reacting to the incident on BBC Sports Extra 2, former goalkeeper Schwarzer said: “That is crazy. It looked like a yellow card.
“[Leeds] almost went down to 10 men, and 30 seconds later they are down to 10 men! You feel for [Gudmundsson]. There are emotions and frustration and I think he is a little bit unfortunate.”
Gudmundsson will undoubtedly take a share of the blame for leaving United having to hang on, but Calvert-Lewin’s penalty miss was also a big moment for Leeds.
Where does Selhurst Park stalemate leave Leeds United?
Any point away from home can be considered a positive result in the Premier League, especially when it comes in these circumstances.
It is the first time Leeds have missed a penalty and had a player sent off in the first half of a Premier League game.
In fact, it’s the first time that has happened to any Premier League side since Sheffield United against Aston Villa in September 2020.
The point moves Leeds one step closer to safety, with the gap on West Ham in 18th back to three points.
Nottingham Forest and Tottenham are level with West Ham on 29 points, though the latter play their game in hand against Liverpool later on Sunday.
For now, Daniel Farke’s men remain just above the water for another week.
