Leeds United: Joe Rodon an FPL manager’s dream, he’s unmatched after Brentford stalemate

Leeds United star Joe Rodon is proving to be a Fantasy Football bargain after his latest display against Brentford.

There wasn’t too much to cheer about for Leeds on Saturday night as the Whites were held to a goalless draw against Brentford at Elland Road.

Leeds had 14 shots to Brentford’s six but only created an Expected Goals tally of 0.54, while the visitors had an xG of 0.46 in a game that won’t live long in the memory.

Daniel Farke’s side have now gone four Premier League games without a goal, with the Whites just four points above the relegation zone.

But at the other end, Leeds have now kept two clean sheets in a row, with centre-back Rodon playing a big part in that defensive solidity.

Joe Rodon proving his worth for Leeds

After two straight seasons of the Championship’s promotion teams getting relegated back down to the English second-tier, many would have been forgiven for not thinking much of Leeds, Sunderland, and Burnley’s chances this term.

However, Sunderland are comfortably in mid-table and are virtually assured of another season in the Premier League, while Leeds are just above the relegation zone and Burnley look set to go down.

How the promoted sides have fared this seasonLeague position
Sunderland*: 10 wins, 10 draws, 10 losses, 40 points13th
Leeds: 7 wins, 12 draws, 12 losses, 33 points15th
Burnley: 4 wins, 8 draws, 19 losses, 20 points19th

As a result, not many Fantasy Football competitors would have chosen many Leeds, Burnley, or Sunderland players but as the season has progressed, some minds might have been changed.

And with the way Rodon is playing right now, he could be a wise pick as the season enters the final straight.

The Welsh international kept his fifth clean sheet of the campaign in a strong display in Farke’s defence, alongside Jaka Bijol and Pascal Struijk.

As the graphic shows above, for £4million, the 28-year-old may be worth a punt.

With 99 points to his name, no defender costing £4million or less has racked up more.

Leeds stalwart Rodon keeps Igor Thiago quiet

Heading into the Brentford clash, Leeds fans were wary about the Bees star Thiago, who has scored 19 goals this season.

Only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland tops Thiago in the Premier League’s goalscoring charts but once again, Leeds marshalled him well.

He created very little in the 1-1 reverse fixture earlier this season and Rodon and co limited him to just one shot off target on Saturday.

Rodon was particularly impressive in Leeds’ draw at Palace last Sunday and he backed that up with another solid display against Brentford.

Leeds’ goalscoring issues are becoming a problem. But half the battle is keeping a clean sheet and if the Whites keep doing that, their survival chances will certainly be boosted.
