Leeds United earn new Premier League record this season as doubts explode away instantly

Leeds United have gone from a side that couldn’t score goals for nearly a month to one that is creating and taking chances at will.

After a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa, Leeds failed to score in defeats to Manchester City and Sunderland and draws with Crystal Palace and Brentford.

The games against Sunderland and Brentford really showcased Daniel Farke‘s side’s bluntness in front of goal as they struggled to create meaningful opportunities.

However, following the March international break, Leeds scored twice against West Ham in the FA Cup, twice against Manchester United, and three times against Wolves.

Ahead of Leeds’ trip to Bournemouth on Wednesday, it is worth reflecting on their change of fortunes in front of goal as they march towards Premier League safety.

Confidence key for Leeds United

In Leeds’ last three games in all competitions, Noah Okafor has scored three goals and added two assists. Following the win over Wolves, the Swiss international lifted the lid on his current purple patch.

He said, “I am like a player who needs loads of confidence to perform. And this I felt from the first day when I arrived in Leeds, from the coach [Daniel Farke].”

Leeds are showing the best versions of themselves in attack right now, as they sped eight points clear of the relegation zone with five games remaining.

Perhaps the international break did Leeds a world of good after slipping closer towards the bottom three over the course of March.

And, according to LUFC Data, Leeds’ whirlwind start against Wolves, where they went 2-0 up inside 20 minutes, broke a Premier League record this season.

Leeds created six big chances and took two of them, before cruising in third gear for the rest of the game, with the Whites content to protect their lead.

The Yorkshire team have scored 42 goals in the league this season, a figure dwarfed by the likes of Arsenal (63), Manchester City (65), and Man United (58).

And yet, nobody has flown out of the blocks quite like Leeds did against Wolves.

Farke will hope his team’s attack is purring once again ahead of trips to Bournemouth and Wembley, where they will face Chelsea in an FA Cup semi-final.

How strong will Leeds go for Bournemouth test?

Farke believes that Leeds are almost there when it comes to ensuring their Premier League status for another year, ahead of winnable matches against lowly Burnley, Tottenham, and West Ham.

Leeds have their first FA Cup semi-final to look forward to since 1987 on Sunday, as question marks mount over what side will line up against Chelsea in the capital.

Some Leeds tweaks may be likely at Bournemouth, but wholesale changes are unlikely.

Joe Rodon could make his first start since suffering an ankle injury against West Ham earlier this month, while Sean Longstaff could be given a go in midfield.

Leeds will be the underdogs to win that one, as Bournemouth have barely lost a game in 2026. But the Whites will fancy their chances of getting a result as they strive for survival.
