Leeds United debut edges closer for Jayden Lienou after display in win vs Tottenham Under-21s

Leeds United have a gem in Jayden Lienou, and it won’t be long until he breaks into the first team.

Whether it be Archie Gray, Kalvin Phillips or James Milner, Leeds have had an abundance of players rise through their youth academy and make their mark in the first team.

And that conveyor belt is still moving at Thorp Arch, with several youth stars already looking as though they are ready to have an impact under Daniel Farke.

Lienou has been widely tipped for a big future with his performances in the Premier League 2, and after another impressive display in Leeds’ latest victory over Tottenham, he may be one step closer to achieving that.

Jayden Lienou shines in latest Under-21 victory

Rhys Chadwick is another with a big future at Elland Road, and it was his goal that proved to be the difference in Leeds’ encounter with Tottenham on Monday night.

However, plenty of attention was reserved for the performance of Lienou, and rightfully so.

While his pass accuracy of 67 per cent could do with some improvement, several other aspects of his game showcased the ability that he has to offer.

He won 10 of his 13 duels in the game, while also making an impressive six tackles against a physical Spurs side.

Lienou created one chance in the 90 minutes he played, while also completing one of his three attempted crosses, which led to the winning goal.

The Wales youth international has everything required to make it at Leeds United in the near future, and it may not be long until we see him incorporated into the first team set-up.

Lienou’s contract situation explained at Thorp Arch

Lienou joined the Whites back in 2025 and signed a three-year contract, which will keep him here until 2028.

However, given the level of quality he has already showcased in his game, there may be a case to be had that he could be in line for a new deal already come the end of the campaign.

The 17-year-old spent time with Man City prior to his move to Thorp Arch, showcasing how highly rated he was.
