Leeds United: Chris Sutton shares ‘devastating’ Calvert-Lewin verdict after Crystal Palace near miss
Chris Sutton hailed the “devastating” impact Dominic Calvert-Lewin is capable of after the forward’s near miss in Leeds United‘s clash with Crystal Palace.
Calvert-Lewin got on the end of Joe Rodon’s right-sided cross during the first half of Sunday’s Premier League clash at Selhurst Park.
However, it was too close to back-up Palace keeper Walter Benitez, who had a routine save to make down the middle.
Calvert-Lewin was then left red-faced before half-time of Leeds’ meeting with Palace as he horribly scuffed a penalty kick just before the interval, before Gabriel Gudmundsson was dismissed.

Chris Sutton impressed by Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s aerial threat
Prior to Calvert-Lewin’s horror miss from the spot, he was praised multiple times by Sutton on Sky Sports’ commentary for his hold-up play up top.
Of the near miss from Rodon’s cross, Sutton said: “He’s a long way out. He tries to direct it into the far corner. He’s devastating in the air, isn’t he?”
Leeds fans know all too well exactly what Calvert-Lewin is capable of when given the support from wide areas.
The penalty miss was a shocker, but the England international does still have 10 goals in the Premier League this season.
It is now imperative the forward puts his spot-kick howler to one side if Leeds are to pick up a result that would ease any lingering relegation fears.
Gabriel Gudmundsson leaves Leeds with it all to do
After a rather low-key opening 40 minutes or so at Selhurst Park, the game well and truly sparked into life.
First, Calvert-Lewin missed from the spot and then Gudmundsson was shown a second yellow card, leaving Daniel Farke’s men with it all to do.

It was ridiculous from the defender to pick up a needless second caution. Referee Thomas Bramall initially seemed to forget the Leeds ace had been booked, but the red card did eventually come out.
Holding on for a point will now likely be the best outcome for the Whites, which ultimately would not be a bad return at all.
If Palace do go on to win, however, Farke will rightly point the finger of blame at Gudmundsson for getting himself dismissed in the manner he did.
