Leeds United can write their name into Premier League history with 27-year first vs Tottenham

Leeds United are looking to make it six games unbeaten when they face Tottenham on Monday night.

Safety is already all but secured, but it is likely to be made official this weekend, and potentially before the Whites even take to the pitch.

If West Ham fail to beat Arsenal, then Leeds’ Premier League status will be confirmed for the new campaign.

And much of that is down to their recent form, with the Whites having extended their unbeaten run to six with a 3-1 victory against Burnley last time out.

Should Leeds avoid defeat against Tottenham on Monday, they would join a very exclusive club in the top flight.

Leeds can match Middlesbrough’s unbeaten run

For Leeds’ last Premier League defeat, you have to go back to the start of March, when Sunderland secured a 1-0 victory courtesy of a Habib Diarra penalty.

Since then, the Whites have drawn three and won three, with victories against the likes of Burnley, Chelsea and Wolves, two of whom have already been relegated.

With a trip to Tottenham up next, Daniel Farke‘s side will be quietly confident of extending that run to seven games unbeaten, and if so, they will become one of very few clubs to have achieved the feat twice in a campaign after promotion.

Middlesbrough were the last team to do so back in the 1998-99 season, when they went on to finish ninth in the Premier League.

Leeds should be confident of matching record vs Spurs

Not only are Leeds in good form, which is a boost in itself, but Tottenham’s home record is appalling this season.

They sit second-bottom of the Premier League home table, having won just two of their 17 home encounters this season.

Spurs have picked up the joint-lowest points at home this season, with even Wolves having accumulated more, albeit having also played one more.

Tottenham’s last win on their own stomping ground was back in December, when they secured a 2-0 win over Brentford, three managers ago.

Leeds have picked up 14 points on their travels this season, albeit with that being the third-worst record in the Premier League.
