Joel Piroe: Leeds United forward should be granted one last Elland Road chance
Joel Piroe should be given another chance to shine for Leeds United, as Daniel Farke searches for attacking improvements.
Piroe has made just 17 total appearances for Leeds in all competitions this season, with 13 of those coming in the Premier League.
Only two of those league outings have been as part of the starting lineup though, and has just nine minutes of top flight action in the Whites’ last four games.
However, Farke’s side have been struggling in front of goal in recent weeks, with no league goal scored in their last four.
Frustrations in this department were fuelled even further in Leeds’ 0-0 draw with Brentford on Saturday night, as the Whites huffed and puffed at Elland Road, but couldn’t find a way through the Bees’ stubborn defence.

Joel Piroe might be able to offer Leeds more in attack
Piroe looks likely to leave Leeds this summer as things stand, especially if Farke’s men can secure their Premier League status.
However, the 26-year-old finished last season as Leeds’, and indeed the Championship’s, top goalscorer, with 19 goals in 46 second tier outings in 2024-25.
| Joel Piroe Championship 2024-25 stats | Result |
| Expected goals (xG) | 17.17 |
| Goals per game | 0.4 |
| Big chances missed | 13 |
| Goal conversion | 19% |
But, for as good as he’s been in the Championship during his career, Piroe has never quite been able to prove himself in the Premier League.
That said, it won’t be an easy decision for Leeds’ decision-makers regarding his future this summer, and so to help make their minds up, giving him some increased opportunities between now and the end of the season would make a lot of sense.
He must’ve been watching on from the bench as an unused substitute against Crystal Palace and Brentford thinking, ‘I can impact these games’.
Piroe would surely offer more than Brenden Aaronson is?
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin not for budging at the spearpoint of the Leeds attack, Piroe could come back into the side in an attacking midfield role: one that he’s very much accustomed to at Elland Road.
Brenden Aaronson is in a very poor run of form at the moment, with the American looking every bit of a player who is in desperate need of a rest, and taking out of the firing line.
The 25-year-old hasn’t provided a single goal contribution since bagging a brace against Newcastle on 7 January, and so it’s hard to say that Piroe wouldn’t offer any less than what he is to the attack right now.
Farke needs to use the international break to sort out his attacking formula, and some brave decisions may come about from that, and that might just involve a return to the team for Piroe.
