James Justin will not worry Gabriel Gudmundsson one bit after Leeds United win in FA Cup
James Justin was chosen to start for Leeds United against West Ham with Gabriel Gudmundsson missing out as an injury precaution.
Gudmundsson’s absence was unexpected, with Daniel Farke not mentioning any issues leading up to the FA Cup quarter-final.
The Swede has been an integral part of the German’s plans, in which he has started in 28 out of the possible 31 games this season.
One of those missing matches came through suspension after his red card against Crystal Palace.
Nonetheless, Gudmundsson will certainly not feel too worried about his position in the pecking order ahead of Leeds’ next match against Manchester United.

Why Gabriel Gudmundsson will not fear drop after James Justin performance
Justin did not have a terrible performance against West Ham, but in truth it was nothing to write home about.
Defensively, the Englishman was fairly solid, but offensively he was poor.
| James Justin for Leeds 2025-2026 Premier League | Total |
| Duel success | 57% |
| Crossing accuracy | 19% |
| Big chances created | 4 |
| Tackles per game | 1.4 |
Justin won six of his 11 duels, made seven clearances and won 100 per cent of his two tackles completed. Additionally, he made two recoveries.
Further up the pitch, Justin did not connect with any of his four attempted crosses and failed to create any chances throughout the match.
The wingback did also take three shots, all of which were poor efforts at goal.
It was ultimately not a game of two halves for Justin, but rather a game of two ends of the pitch.
Overall, with Gudmundsson watching on from home, the Sweden international will not be too worried about his role within the Whites lineup.
Once he returns, you would expect him to slot straight back into the team, probably at Old Trafford.

When is Gabriel Gudmundsson back for Leeds?
Gudmundsson’s absence was only due to a slight groin issue, and he should be back for the game against Manchester United on 13 April.
However, Farke will likely provide a clearer update in his press conference ahead of the game.
Leeds enter the game with plenty more injury issues as well. Anton Stach was forced off on Sunday, in what is believed to be ligament damage.
Additionally, Joe Rodon had to be withdrawn from the action as well after he rolled his ankle.
Both setbacks are not ideal for the Peacocks’ preparation against one of their biggest rivals. However, with Gudmundsson likely to be back, there are at least some positives in the build-up.
