Facundo Buonanotte: Last Leeds United chance may come courtesy of Brenden Aaronson form

Facundo Buonanotte’s Leeds United loan move hasn’t worked, but the recent poor performances of Brenden Aaronson could present him with one final Elland Road chance.

The 21-year-old was Leeds’ only senior signing of the winter transfer window, joining on loan from Brighton for the remainder of the season.

With Premier League and Champions League pedigree under his belt with Chelsea, and having banked an impressive top-flight campaign with Leicester City last season, the Argentine was an exciting addition.

However, he’s so far only got two Premier League appearances totalling 24 minutes of league action to say for his time at Elland Road.

So, with only seven games of Leeds’ season remaining, the attacking midfielder is running out of time to make his stint in West Yorkshire a memorable one for the right reasons.

Brenden Aaronson should be dropped from Leeds United team

Aaronson is in a bad run of form for Leeds, with no goal contribution in any competition since his brace against Newcastle on 7 January.

That was 12 appearances ago for the American international, and the 25-year-old has looked every bit of a player that’s in desperate need of a rest, and taking out of the firing line by Daniel Farke.

Part of the reason why that’s not been the case with him is both down to Buonanotte’s unconvincing showings when called upon, and Noah Okafor’s injury absence respectively.

But, the latter has now recovered from his hamstring issue, and was able to come off the bench and play 20 minutes against Brentford last time out.

Therefore, the Swiss international returning could close the door on Buonanotte’s chance of replacing Aaronson in the team, but whilst he’s still getting back to match fitness, he could still hold a sliver of hope.

Leeds will always rue January window if they go down

Seven games to play, four points above the relegation zone: Leeds fans are in for a nervy ride between now and the end of the season.

Farke’s side have their Premier League destiny in their own hands, but that could soon change with a couple more disappointing results.

With no league win in six, the Whites head to Old Trafford on 13 April knowing that a win at the home of their bitter rivals would put them on the precipice of survival.

However, should Leeds end up being relegated, fans will look back on the Club’s January transfer window and look at the lone signing of Buonanotte and say, ‘that’s where our fate turned’.
