Elland Road announcement and Jayden Bogle apology: Four things you may have missed in Leeds win vs Wolves

Elland Road played host to what was a momentous win for Leeds United as they secured a 3-0 victory over Wolves.

Leeds United all but secured their spot in the Premier League for another season with a win against Wolves, taking them nine points clear of the drop zone prior to Tottenham’s clash with Brighton.

James Justin opened the scoring after 19 minutes, with Noah Okafor doubling their lead less than 90 seconds later.

The Whites certainly took their foot off the gas from there on, but did more than enough to see out the remainder of the game, courtesy of Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s late penalty.

However, aside from Leeds securing three points against Wolves, there were several other incidents from the clash that may have gone unnoticed.

Farai Hallam apologises after Leeds incident

Leeds certainly took their foot off the gas when they went 2-0 up, though there were still a handful of breaks that looked promising.

And one of them was halted by referee Farai Hallam, who had no choice but to apologise to the Whites after failing to play an advantage on a promising attack.

Aaronson was fouled, and the ball fell to Jayden Bogle, who looked to drive up the right flank, only to be stopped in his tracks by Hallam’s whistle.

As quoted by Graham Smyth, the official apologised for stopping the play, not that Leeds were overly penalised by the decision.

Brenden Aaronson milestone achieved vs Wolves

Plenty was made of Farke’s decision to start Aaronson, but given the role he played in the win away to Man United, it was certainly warranted.

And by doing so, it meant that the midfielder made his 100th competitive start for the Whites since joining back in 2022 from Salzburg, becoming the first ever American to achieve the feat.

And he certainly marked it in fashion, having played just as crucial a role in the Whites’ victory against Wolves with an assist for Okafor’s goal.

It was a delightful ball into the penalty area, and one of several moments of sheer quality that he produced on a momentous occasion for all involved.

Hilarious Elland Road announcement sparks cheers

The second half was not one to remember, but it was enough for Leeds to see out the game and secure all three points.

In fact, the most memorable incident in the second period was actually a substitution, and not one for Leeds or for Wolves, for that matter.

Just after announcing the Whites’ changes, the Elland Road announcer added “Also coming off, the linesman, to be replaced by the fourth official” after he suffered an injury while running the line.

Unsurprisingly, it was met with the loudest cheers in the second half.

Wolves fans serenaded by Leeds supporters

Wolves fans have known that relegation has been coming for a while now, and while still not mathematically confirmed, the 15-point gap with five games to go has all but confirmed their drop to the Championship.

And Leeds supporters wasted no time in making them aware of their predicament while also basking in their recent FA Cup glory.

As reported by Beren Cross, the Elland Road faithful were heard chanting “We’re going to Wembley, you’re going to Hull,” to the travelling supporters.

However, with Hull actually in the race for the play-offs, they may not even have the luxury of that away trip next season, with Lincoln City a far more reasonable proposition.

But that wasn’t it, with the Leeds fans later heard serenading the Wolves fans with “Tottenham away ole ole ole,” while leading 2-0.
