Dominic Calvert-Lewin holds key for Leeds vs West Ham as 38-year FA Cup first on the cards

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be the reason Leeds United make it into the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the first time since 1987.

Premier League survival is still the main ambition for Leeds, but this weekend their attentions turn back to the FA Cup when they travel to face West Ham.

The Whites secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Norwich in the previous round of the competition, with Calvert-Lewin absent due to injury.

However, the 29-year-old will be fit when Leeds take on West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday, and if his record against the Hammers is anything to go by, he could be the difference maker.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s record vs West Ham examined

Calvert-Lewin has certainly had a tough year with Leeds so far, having scored just two Premier League goals since the end of December.

Prior to that, the Englishman had scored eight goals from 16 Premier League games, showcasing the quality he has when the confidence is flowing.

And there may be no better time for the Englishman to rekindle his confidence against the Hammers, having scored six times against them in 14 career appearances.

Only Crystal Palace and Newcastle have conceded more goals to Calvert-Lewin throughout his time in the Premier League, showcasing just how much he loves playing against the Irons.

With a goal every 2.3 games against West Ham, it’s the best record he has against any side that he has faced off against on more than 10 occasions throughout his career.

Should he be able to build on that record this weekend, Leeds may be able to secure their place in the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1987.

Daniel Farke’s record vs West Ham needs improving

While Calvert-Lewin may love playing against the Irons, Daniel Farke may not be overly keen on managing against them.

And that is because the German has won just one of his three previous encounters with them, albeit with that one win having come earlier this season.

Coincidentally, that was actually one of the games that Calvert-Lewin featured in against the Hammers and failed to score, with Brenden Aaronson and Joe Rodon on the score sheet for the Whites on that day.
