Daniel Farke weeks away from decision that could shape Ollie Pickles’ future at Leeds

Daniel Farke will be well aware of the progress made by Leeds United youngster Ollie Pickles this season.

Because of the nature of the Premier League, the Whites have had very little space to integrate their youngsters at Elland Road.

However, with a nine-point cushion on Tottenham, and just a handful of games left to be played, we are slowly approaching the stage of the season in which Farke can somewhat take the handbrake off.

That will not mean that performance levels drop, but it could see opportunities handed to several young players who have been forced to spend the season in the Premier League 2.

Pickles has impressed consistently for Leeds’ Under-21s, and he may be one of those in line to benefit when safety is confirmed.

Ollie Pickles deserves Leeds United chance

Whether it be Alfie Cresswell, Jayden Lienou or Pickles himself, Leeds have had several youngsters prove their worth in the Premier League 2.

However, while many of them have earned their plaudits for doing so, very few have mentioned just how well Pickles has fared, mainly due to the nature of his role.

No player in the Premier League 2 has played more minutes than the teenager this season, showcasing his biggest asset, which is availability.

But aside from that, he has also showcased some serious quality, with Pickles leading the way among all midfielders with 130 defensive contributions.

Despite being a defensive-minded player, the teen has also created 16 chances this season, albeit with only one of them resulting in a goal.

Pickles has shown a level of maturity in his game, and that deserves to be recognised when the time is right.

When could we see Leeds’ up-and-coming stars in the Premier League?

While safety for Leeds is looking likely, it is not confirmed.

However, depending on results elsewhere, it could be confirmed within the first two weeks of May, meaning the Whites would have two or potentially three games to spare.

Should that be the case, Farke may opt to hand minutes to several youth players with a view to them being in and around the squad next season.
