Daniel Farke can all but cement Leeds’ Premier League status with 25-year first vs Bournemouth

Daniel Farke has almost certainly done enough to keep Leeds United in the Premier League, but Tuesday’s clash with Bournemouth offers a chance to almost make it official.

There have been bumps along the way, but with an eight-point cushion and just five games to be played, Leeds are agonisingly close to securing their target.

However, the Whites won’t rest until it is mathematically impossible for them to be relegated, which is just a few games away.

Leeds face Bournemouth on Wednesday night, knowing that a win could take them 11 points clear of the bottom three.

But not only would that likely keep Leeds in the Premier League, but it would also see them achieve a feat that has not been seen since 2001.

Leeds United out to extend remarkable away record

With just two wins on their travels, there is certainly plenty of room for improvement when it comes to Leeds’ performances away from home.

However, avoiding defeat on the road is often just as important for a newly promoted team, and the Whites have made a very good effort at that.

Leeds have come away with a point or more on nine occasions this season, which is already the same as or more than seven other teams in the league.

But what is even more impressive is the fact that they are unbeaten in their last five Premier League away games, with four draws in that time.

Leeds are now eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Should they repeat that result, or better it, it would be the first time since 2001 that they have gone six away games without a defeat.

It will not be enough to make absolutely sure of their spot in the top flight next season, but it would put them as close as they would possibly be at this stage of the season.

Bournemouth record should give Leeds added hope

Not only have Leeds fared well on their travels as of late, but the Cherries have struggled massively against teams coming up from the Championship.

Andoni Iraola’s side have failed to beat any of the three promoted teams this season, having drawn four of their five games while losing the other.

With this being the last game of the season in those circumstances, Bournemouth are worryingly close to being the first team to go an entire season without a win against a promoted side since Southampton did the same back in the 2017-18 season.
