Brenden Aaronson: 20-second clip vs Brentford sums up what’s going wrong for Leeds United star
Brendan Aaronson was spotted losing control of the ball three times in 20 seconds during Leeds United‘s goalless draw against Brentford on Saturday.
The Whites were held to a 0-0 draw at Elland Road, as pressure continues to mount around their fight for Premier League survival, no thanks to Aaronson.
The American had a spike in form earlier in the season, and interestingly, was hitting heights he never achieved even in the Championship.
However, the attacking midfielder has been out of sorts recently, and Daniel Farke may have to take him out of the starting lineup soon.
Leeds need all the points they can get, and the footage gives Aaronson little room for excuses.

The footage shows why Brenden Aaronson needs a break
The international break has arguably come at the right time for the Whites, as form has taken a dip in recent games.
We all know how important Elland Road is for Leeds, but Farke’s side have been unable to capitalise on big chances lately.
| Department | Stat |
| Lost possession | 10 |
| Touches | 30 |
| Progressive carries | 1 |
| Pass accuracy | 64% |
| Sofascore rating | 6.1 |
As highlighted by Sofascore, Aaronson was a big part of the reason why Leeds didn’t click in the final third of the pitch.
The versatile midfielder picked up a 6.1 match rating and lost the ball once for every three touches he had, which is quite simply remarkable.
A video on X has reached Leeds fans, as it shows Aaronson being dispossessed three times in just 20 seconds.
Farke now has the opportunity to drop Aaronson as soon as league action resumes.
Who should now replace Aaronson?
Aaronson was hooked by Farke in the 68th minute, but the Leeds boss decided to replace him with Ao Tanaka.
Perhaps the reason why the German head coach keeps playing Aaronson is that he offers both advanced attacking qualities and defensive input at the same time. The problem is, he’s just not showing it right now.
- Aaronson has seven goal contributions
- He’s played in 30 of Leeds’ 31 league matches this season
There’s also an issue with starting Tanaka, because then it immediately has Leeds setting up in a more negative way than with an extra attacking-minded player on the pitch.
The way forward could be for Farke to keep playing Tanaka, but in a defensive role like he’s used to, and utilise Anton Stack in the number 10 role.
It’s hard to see anything other than working for the Whites right now, so hopefully Aaronson will get back to his best soon.
