Ao Tanaka importance outlined yet again at Leeds after Burnley victory

Ao Tanaka may well be Leeds United‘s most important midfielder.

Premier League football will be abck at Elland Road again next season, barring something completely out of the ordinary, with the Whites in need of just four points from their last three games to make absolutely sure of their spot.

Their latest win over Burnley did wonders for their chances of survival, meaning there is a high chance that they will be safe even if they don’t pick up another point.

Noah Okafor played his part with another goal, as did Calvert-Lewin, though Tanaka’s display went under the radar once again.

And if Leeds are to progress next season, he may be the key to doing so.

Leeds’ record with Ao Tanaka speaks volumes

Daniel Farke has done an excellent job this season, but his selection decisions have often caused debate.

And for a large part of the campaign, Tanaka was on the wrong side of them, with the Japan international often forced to sit on the bench.

That has changed since the start of the year, with Tanaka having played a far more prominent role, and to good effect.

The Whites have nine wins in the Premier League this season, and eight of them have come when Tanaka has started in midfield.

It’s made even more impressive when taking into account that he has only started 11 times in the top flight.

Tanaka could be crucial for Leeds next season

Anton Stach usually comes away with the most credit, but Tanaka’s role in the team is something that no one else can offer.

He can contribute at both ends of the pitch, and his energy in the middle allows those around him to flourish.

Tanaka has been linked with an exit from Leeds, but his recent form, matched with the Whites’ record with him in the team, showcases exactly why that deal cannot be sanctioned, no matter what.

And certainly not at the fee that was being reported.
