Anton Stach: Leeds United star tops Premier League set-piece metric

Anton Stach has created the most chances from set-pieces for Leeds United this season.

It goes without saying, but Stach has easily been the best addition made by the Whites in the summer transfer, with the German having played a crucial role in all areas of the pitch.

His pjhysacility has aided Leeds in their midfield battles, while his creativity has been a big reason behind some of the success they have found in the final third.

Stach is second in the Premier League for the number of key passes completed this season, behind only Bruno Fernandes, while also being equal with him for the number of chances created from set pieces.

If Leeds are to avoid relegation, utilising his strengths could be the key.

Anton Stach’s creativity could be key to Leeds survival

The German maestro has created 55 chances in the Premier League this season, with nine of those having been deemed as big chances.

Of those 55, 27 of them have come from set-pieces, which means no player in the Premier League has created more chances from those situations than Stach.

That has been a big part of Leeds United’s season, with 13 of their 37 league goals having come from set-piece situations, which is the fifth-most in the top flight.

Many questioned Daniel Farke’s decision to have Stach on that duty given his height, but as the season has gone on, his decision has certainly been vindicated.

How can Leeds get more from Stach’s dead-ball ability?

Leeds have had 144 shots from set-piece situations, with 13 goals.

With an xG of 12.73, they are actually slightly overperforming their expected goal return, but there is still more to come.

Farke has the likes of Jaka Bijol, Pascal Struikk and Dominic Calvert-Lewin to be a presence in the box, and his omission of the former recently has restricted their threat.

With Stach’s delivery and Bijol’s physical presence, the Whites are almost guaranteed to make more of their set-pieces when they come, which would be enough to keep them in the Premier League.
