Leeds will be grateful to Rotherham after Harry Gray latest

Leeds United gem Harry Gray is currently thriving on loan at Rotherham United.

The 17-year-old was sent to the League One side to gain senior experience, and the proximity to his parent club helped the Millers to seal the deal.

Gray has notched two goals in 11 games for the relegation strugglers, which is a solid return for his first stint away from Elland Road.

Leeds will be keeping a close eye on his progress, and they will be extremely grateful for the latest developments from the New York Stadium.

Why Leeds will love what Rotherham have done

Gray was withdrawn in the final 20 minutes of Rotherham’s clash with Huddersfield, despite his side losing the game 1-0.

Millers boss Matt Hamshaw did not risk the Whites youngsters’ fitness, despite having a full week to prepare for the clash with Bolton Wanderers on 14 March.

Speaking about that decision to the Rotherham Advertiser, he said: “He’s fine, I think we did the right thing bringing him off [at Huddersfield].

“I didn’t really want to, if I’m going to be honest, but leaving him on could have led to something a lot more extensive.”

Leeds will surely love the safety-first approach that Hamshaw is taking, in not risking one of their prized assets and keeping him fit.

How does Daniel Farke feel about Gray?

Daniel Farke has made his feelings clear on Gray, he really rates him very highly.

That was evident when Farke was talking about a new contract for their academy gem, after he signed a new deal in October.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, he said: “It’s a cornerstone for our future that we make sure that promising players like Harry sign new contracts, because we want to develop our own talents.

“If you have a quality young player, of course it lasts a bit longer until everything is negotiated, and I’m pretty delighted that it’s over the line.”

It was vital that the LS11 side got their best talent to sign fresh terms, as he has attracted interest from Manchester City and Tottenham, and was heavily linked with a £40million exit.

Now, the focus will be on Gray’s development, and hoping that he finishes the season strongly with his loan side before coming back to Leeds.

Then his next move will be assessed, which could well be another loan away from the Peacocks, for a further taste of the senior game, if he is deemed as not being ready yet.

He may then be ready for an opportunity in the Whites’ first-team, if all goes to plan and he comes on as Farke is hoping.

However, it is important not to place too much expectation on the young man’s shoulders at the minute, and just let him enjoy his football away from Thorp Arch.
