Leeds United: Daniel Farke gets Gabriel Gudmundsson injury update he was desperate for

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke will be grateful to hear the injury Gabriel Gudmundsson sustained on international duty was nothing serious.

Gudmundsson played 77 minutes for Sweden in Thursday’s 3-1 World Cup qualifying playoff semi-final win over Ukraine.

It was reported at the time that the full-back left the field after suffering a “big bang” to the knee a little earlier, which he tried to shake off.

Gudmundsson was then seen holding an ice pack on his knee as Sweden saw out the win that sets up a qualifying playoff final against Poland on Tuesday.

And it looks as though Gudmundsson’s injury scare will not keep him out of that crucial contest for his country.

Gabriel Gudmundsson shares further update on knock

There were fears when Gudmundsson sustained the injury he would face a spell out, but that is not going to be the case.

The 26-year-old has trained ahead of the clash with Poland at Friends Arena and will be considered for a starting spot.

In quotes via Fotboll Direkt, Gudmundsson said: “It’s calm. I’ve been practicing and there’s nothing strange about it.

“I immediately felt that it was a bang and not a twist. If it had been a twist, I probably wouldn’t have been standing here now.”

Gudmundsson is clearly not feeling the impact of the blow, then, which is great news for Farke ahead of the return of club action next weekend.

First, though, the defender needs to come through the Poland match unscathed.

Leeds also get positive update on Anton Stach

Leeds still have a number of players in international duty on Tuesday, but the other news so far has been largely positive in terms of escaping injuries.

Indeed, Anton Stach was an unused substitute for Germany on Monday night and so will be fit and ready to go against West Ham United next Sunday.

A quartet of Leeds players could feature for Wales in their dead-rubber against Northern Ireland on Tuesday night.

However, Daniel James – superb against Bosnia-Herzegovina last week – will not be risked by Craig Bellamy if he is not 100 per cent fit, having started just one game at club level so far this year.

Farke will just hope other managers take a similar stance for friendly games, with fingers crossed of a full bill of health come the weekend.
