Harry Gray returns to Leeds United: What next for Rotherham United loan spell?

Harry Gray has returned to Leeds United to recover from an injury picked up on loan with Rotherham United.

The Elland Road prodigy has scored two goals in 12 appearances for the League One side, but a hamstring strain has halted his progress.

It is a setback for the 17-year-old, but the issue is not expected to keep him out for the rest of the season, which will be a positive for Daniel Farke.

The better facilities in LS11, combined with Leeds’ medical staff should see Gray return to action quicker than if he had stayed with the Millers.

When is Leeds talent Gray expected to return?

Leeds talent Gray was highly-rated by Matt Hamshaw, but he has now been replaced as the boss at the New York Stadium.

Lee Clark is now in charge, and he gave an update on Gray’s issue in his pre-Lincoln City media duties on 20 March.

He said: “That’s a very common practice with loan players, especially when you’re dealing with young ones.

“Harry can benefit from the medical facilities at his own Premier League club, especially with Leeds just being down the road.

“We’re hopeful on Harry being available for the next group of matches after Saturday, which will be a big boost.”

A report from the Yorkshire Evening Post suggests that the injury is minor and will only keep the youngster out for between two and three weeks.

When could he return to action for Rotherham?

Rotherham’s next match after the Lincoln clash, is a home game with Stevenage on 3 April, and Gray could be back for that, based on the timescale put on his return.

If he cannot recover in time for that match, the visit to Port Vale on 6 April could be when he makes his comeback to the side

Rotherham’s next four games.

If he does not make that, then he should be back in time for when Clark’s side hosts Barnsley on 11 April.

What factors could delay his return?

His loan club desperately need him back, they are firmly in a relegation battle, sitting 22nd in the third tier, six points away from safety.

If Gray can come back in scoring form, it could be the difference between the Yorkshire side being relegated to League Two and staying in the division.

The Whites will be keen to ensure that he only comes back to action when he is fully fit, though, and is not rushed back just to help Clark’s side try to avoid the drop.

Ultimately, all parties will want the teenager not to aggravate the issue and make it worse, as that does not serve any of their interests.
