Leeds United relegation ramification emerges for Elland Road redevelopment plans

Leeds United could potentially have to delay their Elland Road redevelopment plans due to Premier League relegation.

As things stand, Daniel Farke’s team are three points ahead of 18th-place West Ham United, with Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur also involved in the race to avoid the drop.

49ers Enterprises have made progress since completely taking over the West Yorkshire outfit, and have ambitions to increase the stadium capacity in LS11 to 53,000 by 2030.

Paraag Marathe’s plans for Elland Road may be derailed, though, if the West Yorkshire outfit face a disappointing end to the season.

Leeds United may cancel Elland Road redevelopment plans for a year

Former CEO of Aston Villa, Christian Purslow, wouldn’t be surprised to see Leeds’ plans at Elland Road affected by relegation.

The former chief at Villa Park expects the Whites to postpone their planned work on the West and North Stands if they can’t maintain their English top-flight status.

With nine games to go in the league, the West Yorkshire outfit can’t afford any more slip-ups as it could potentially have ramifications for their future projects.

Speaking on the Football Boardroom Podcast on 12 March, Purslow said, “It wouldn’t surprise me if it got mothballed for another year if they go down.”

Farke must prioritise the Premier League despite leading the Peacocks to their first FA Cup quarter-final in 23 years.

Not only would relegation be a possible disaster in terms of the Whites’ plans for Elland Road, but they may also have to sell some of their most valuable assets in the summer.

Three players who will surely leave Elland Road after relegation

Ethan Ampadu has taken his game to the next level since joining Leeds and has shown he’s now ready to play in the top flight.

Pascal Struijk is another player who has oozed quality at the West Yorkshire outfit in recent seasons, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see top teams look to sign him at the end of the season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin joined the Peacocks as a free agent and has scored 10 Premier League goals this season, arguably making him a prime candidate to ask for an exit in the event of relegation.

The 49ers will have to start from scratch if Leeds go down, with the Americans hoping to bring top-flight stability in LS11.
