Leeds United and Mallorca jointly decide on Mateo Joseph surgey, striker devastated

Leeds United striker Mateo Joseph is expected to be on the sidelines for six to eight months after being injured at Real Mallorca.

According to Ultima Hora on 10 April, the centre-forward will undergo surgery in the coming days after a joint decision by Whites and the LaLiga side.

The news outlet reports that the 22-year-old is extremely upset as he had initially hoped it wasn’t a serious fitness issue after picking up a knock in training.

It has been claimed that the Spain Under-21 international wants to stay at Estadi Mallorca Son Moix, but that now seems unrealistic following the latest setback.

Joseph will return to Elland Road at the end of the season and there’s a long road to recovery ahead for the young striker.

Mateo Joseph in limbo after injury away from Leeds United

Mallorca were keen on extending Joseph’s stay for the 2026-27 campaign after being impressed by his importance to their success.

The Spanish club are confident that the youngster could flourish in LaLiga, but it remains to be seen what the future holds for him now.

Joseph asked Daniel Farke to leave Elland Road last summer for consistent opportunities and he will now return to the Whites with a serious injury.

If the West Yorkshire outfit stay in the Premier League, it would be surprising to see the centre-forward get chances in LS11 once he returns to full fitness, leaving his future uncertain.

Paraag Marathe may have to cut his losses at Elland Road

Paraag Marathe has immense faith in Joseph’s talent, which is why Leeds didn’t want to include an option for Mallorca to buy him at the end of the season.

The Spanish attacker’s contract at Elland Road runs until 2028 and may only be able to return to action next year.

It would make sense for the Whites to cut their losses on the young centre-forward and sell him when they get the opportunity.

Joseph should prioritise his future and look for pastures new to develop further when he returns.
