Leeds United boardroom explained: Paraag Marathe and son of billionaire
Leeds United’s hierarchy has sparked mixed emotions at Leeds United recently.
Leeds United remain among the favourites for relegation this season, but with four points from the first four games, things aren’t looking too bad.
With that said, the 49ers have come in for criticism at Leeds for the way they handled the summer transfer window, with plenty of supporters feeling as though they’ve left Daniel Farke short in several areas of the squad.
Whether that is the case will ultimately be determined at the end of the season, when Leeds’ board members will be put in the spotlight at Elland Road.
Taking that into account, MOT Leeds News takes a look at the figures behind the scenes.

Paraag Marathe – Chairman of Leeds United
Paraag Marathe has been involved with Leeds since 2018, when the 49ers began their investment at Elland Road.
Three years later, he would go on to become the Vice Chairman, before assuming full duties in 2023 when the 49ers Enterprises acquired full ownership of Leeds United.
- 24 May 2018 – Joined as director
- 25 January 2021 – Appointed Vice Chairman
- 17 July 2023 – Became Chairman
Since then, the Whites have had financial stability, which is a showcase of the work done by him and those around him.
Leeds have tasted success under his tenure, with his day-to-day running of the club seeing him involved with the sporting and commercial operations.
Marathe has also pushed for the Elland Road expansion, showcasing his long-term ambition for Leeds United.
Ultimately, he is the face of the ownership, with Marathe often featuring in interviews to provide updates about the general ongoings at Leeds, and while the actions may not have always worked out, he has remained true to his ambitions.

Pate Lowy – The son of billionaire Frank Lowy
Pete Lowy has been a member of the Leeds board since 2021, and despite being from Australia, is believed to be a lifelong Leeds supporter.
His involvement with Leeds comes from his family’s investment firm, which is an investor in the wider ownership of the 49ers Enterprises.
Lowy’s net worth itself isn’t mindblowing, but his father, Frank, is believed to be one of the 500 richest people in the world, according to Forbes.
His day-to-day job rarely gets put into the spotlight, but he has played a significant role behind the scenes at Elland Road over the last four years.

Other board members at Leeds United
Andrew Schwartzberg and Eugene Schneur are the two other members of the Leeds United board, and joined the Whites in 2024 as part of the changes made by the 49ers Enterprises.
Schwartzberg takes up the role of Vice-Chairman, while Shneur is a board member.
Both arrived at Elland Road with extensive business experience, which has played a huge role in the progress made by Leeds off the pitch.
Schwartzberg, in particular, plays a huge part at Leeds, with a say in strategic plans and decisions made over the course of a year.
Both are non-executive directors, which effectively means that they have little involvement with the footballing operations at Elland Road, but they are crucial to the decisions made off the pitch in terms of commercial opportunities and finances.
