Phil Hay has waxed lyrical over Leeds United summer signing Darko Gyabi who is yet to properly break into the first team at Thorp Arch.

Ahead of the game v Arsenal on 1 April, the Athletic journalist was asked on his Q&A about the midfield situation and the worst-case scenario if Weston McKennie was to be sent off early on in the first half.

He believes that Tyler Adams' seemingly serious injury could see Gyabi get more game time.

Hay wrote, "If there's a McKennie red card after 23 minutes then there's highly unlikely to be a breakout performance.

"I'd like to think that Adams' injury might result in Gyabi getting more minutes. I like the look of him."

Must get his chance

Gyabi has impressed whenever he's been given a chance in the first team and has been a standout performer for the under-21s.

It is surprising why he hasn't been considered regularly for the senior side yet but that could now change with him going up in the pecking order.

An injury for a player is never a good thing, but it gives someone like Gyabi to show why he's been signed for Manchester City.

Without even making a senior appearance for the Citizens, the Leeds hierarchy saw something that made them go out and attempt to complete his signing.

It came as a surprise to fans as they wanted more first-team reinforcements but in the long run, this could be money really well spent.

It remains to be seen if he does feature against Arsenal as there's every possibility of him at least making the bench for this one.
