Leeds United midfielder Ethan Ampadu is out with a Grade 2 injury on the Lateral Cruciate Ligament and not the Anterior Cruciate Ligament, according to Joe Donnohue.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported on 30 September that the recovery for this setback is 8-12 weeks which is why Daniel Farke said 10 weeks.

The Whites captain will most probably not be returning to first-team football in this calendar year, per Wales Online.

Donnohue wrote on X: "To be clear, Ethan Ampadu's knee injury is to the lateral collateral ligament (LCL), not anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). They are different things. Grade 2 LCL recovery between 8-12 weeks, which chimes with Farke's estimate he will return to team training in 10."

Ao Tanaka must step in Ethan Ampadu's stead for Leeds United

It's important that Ampadu's return is handled methodically as rushing back from such injuries can lead to chronic issues, decreased performance or even more severe injuries, potentially sidelining him for longer or permanently affecting his career.

Ampadu's role as a versatile and pivotal player in Leeds' setup means his full recovery is crucial for maintaining team balance and performance consistency.

This injury presents a significant opportunity for Ao Tanaka to step up.

With Ampadu sidelined, the Japan international can prove his worth, not just as a fill-in but as a key component in the Whites' midfield.

His style, blending creativity with defensive solidity, could be just what Farke needs in his team to maintain their competitive edge.

This period allows the 26-year-old to showcase his ability to control games, distribute the ball effectively, and possibly even add more goals or assists to his tally.

Leeds fans will certainly be watching how he fares over the coming weeks and months and he now has a chance to win them over.
