Leeds United have already been proven right in their call to allow Tyler Roberts to join Birmingham City at the beginning of the summer transfer window.

Roberts was one of the first to exit Leeds in the summer before being joined by several key names, but his career in the midlands has got off to a slow start as he has already faced injury setbacks.

The attacker played 60 minutes [WhoScored] in the first game of the season before suffering a pulled calf in training, and his new boss John Eustace has most recently confirmed he is still a few weeks away from making a return [Birmingham Live, 20 September].

In a turbulent summer which saw several key players exit Elland Road whether the club wanted them to or not due to release clauses in their contracts, the decision made to sell Roberts has proved to be one of the best.

Despite a relatively low transfer fee compared to the £2.5million spent to bring him to Elland Road in 2018, with reports claiming it to be "much lower" than £750,000 [Birmingham Live, 21 June], getting him off the books was an important step towards rebuilding the squad.

His most recent spell away from Leeds was a year-long loan at Queens Park Rangers, in which he failed to impress, making just 18 appearances and scoring three goals as the Rs limped to safety in the latter stages of the season.

Eustace has claimed the club have to "protect" Roberts due to his struggles with fitness and suggested he will be slowly eased back into the side upon his return so as to avoid any risk of aggravating the injury.

Leeds will be thankful that he is no longer their issue.
