Leeds United are set to be boosted by the return of Dan James, Ian Poveda and Mateo Joseph for the Championship clash against Millwall on Sunday [17 September], according to Yorkshire Evening Post.

YEP journalist Joe Donnohue reports (12 September) that as many as five of Farke's first-team stars are set to return from injury this month with the likes of Joseph, James and Poveda all expected to make an imminent return to first-team selection contention this weekend.

The Whites have struggled with injuries during the first month of the 2023/24 season, however, Farke is set to be handed a reprieve with Sam Byram, Patrick Bamford and Junior Firpo all also expected to return this month but Sunday's game will be too soon for them.

According to the report, Firpo could to return to action for Leeds United's next Championship encounter after Millwall which comes against Hull City on 20 September while Bamford and Byram target returns at home to Watford on 23 September.

Crucial boost

Leeds United have been handed a crucial boost ahead of their crucial clash in South London on Sunday 17 September, because that is a must-win game.

The Whites have severely been plagued by injuries for much of the start of this new campaign with Farke at some point during the first few games, having to field around eight substitutes because of a lack of availability and transfer business.

However, that situation has dramatically improved right now and it won't be long before the German has a full squad to pick from with Liam Cooper the latest to return in October, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

After the disappointing and dour 0-0 draw against a struggling Sheffield Wednesday before the international break, Farke’s men will have felt they are being left behind by a few of the Championships pace-setters as they currently sit seven points off Preston North End on six points after five games so far.

Given the incredible business the Whites managed to get done in the last days of the transfer window, and the burgeoning quality Farke had at his disposal on Saturday, many expected Leeds United to run away with the victory against Wednesday, but it ended in serious disappointment.

And failure to grab all three points in London against Millwall won’t help the confidence and morale around Farke’s camp one bit, even the morale around the Leeds United boardroom.

The game against Millwall after the two-week pause will certainly provide Leeds United the chance to kickstart their season again and fulfil their early-season aims to get in amongst those at the top of the Championship tree. The injury returns will help considerably.
