Leeds United midfielder Ilia Gruev is unlikely to start for the Whites in their Championship clash with Coventry City, according to Joe Donnohue.

Writing for the Yorkshire Evening Post (5 April) he reported that despite Daniel Farke's insistence the Bulgarian had a chance of making his return from injury against the Sky Blues, he won't yet be fit enough to start from the off.

Gruev hasn't played for Leeds since the March international break, having picked up an injury whilst away on international duty with Bulgaria and Archie Gray has been shifted into midfield to replace the 23-year-old.

Writing for the Yorkshire Evening Post, he said: "Ilia Gruev is unlikely to be passed fit enough to start this weekend which should see Gray remain in central midfield."

Will Ilia Gruev be fit to start for Leeds United against Coventry City?

It's not an exaggeration to suggest that Gruev has quickly become one of the most important parts of this Leeds United team in recent months as the Bulgarian makes the Whites tick from midfield with his energetic style.

The 23-year-old has been a big miss in the two fixtures since the March international break. While Gray has deputised well enough, he doesn't quite have that same style that makes Gruev such a force next to Glen Kamara.

It seems that there is still an outside chance that Gruev may make the matchday squad for Saturday's (6 April) clash, but a potential start seems to be completely out of the question, with Farke unlikely to throw the start in the deep end.

Hopefully, no matter who starts for the Whites on Saturday, they will find a way to claim all three points and take a huge step towards automatic promotion. A win against Coventry would set Leeds on the right path for the remainder of this run-in.
