Gabriel Gudmundsson breaks silence on latest Leeds United injury blow

Gabriel Gudmundsson has once again pulled up with a frustrating injury blow for Leeds United.

The Sweden international missed the final weeks of the Premier League season, but returned for the World Cup.

While that didn't go as planned, Gudmundsson did manage to get through the tournament unscathed.

Unfortunately, the left-back was forced off in his second appearance of pre-season in the United States.

Leeds beat Liverpool 4-2 in Chicago, but Daniel Farke was forced to watch his star defender hobble off in the first half.

Gudmundsson has confirmed that it's another hamstring injury, but no further information has been revealed yet.

This is the last thing that the Whites needed at this moment.

More cover was already needed, with James Justin currently a second option behind both Gudmundsson and Jayden Bogle.

Sportbladet, a Swedish outlet, has covered the injury, stating there is risk that the defender will miss games for "a while."

Speaking to the newspaper on 4 August, Gudmundsson admitted he was simply "sad" at the latest blow.

"It was a little feeling, so we'll see," he started, confirming it was the other hamstring, not the same as last time.

Gudmundsson will now return to England with Leeds, where scans will be taken to determine the level of injury.

Do Leeds have secret weapon to deal with this?

While Justin is more than capable of filling in, as he did several times last season, more is needed.

You could immediately see the attacking drop off, not having that left-footed option to hit the byline and whip a cross in.

Justin was sensational, to his credit, but he would always prefer to play on the right, or even centrally.

Now, that's where Jayden Lienou comes in.

Farke has trusted the young left-back, who made the bench several times towards the end of the last Premier League season.

Now, he's been given meaningful minutes in pre-season and is ready to play as a reliable back-up.

Of course, another option will be hunted in the transfer market, but it may not be the end of the world to go another year with Justin and Lienou in reserve.

With just under three weeks to go until the season opener at Nottingham Forest, there will be hope that Gudmundsson is good to go by then.
