Leeds United sources share player sale updates after double exit

Ben Jacobs says that the sales of Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra mean Leeds United are in a less precarious financial situation than previously thought.

Adams and Sinisterra both joined Bournemouth last summer – though the latter moved on a loan-to-buy deal – and both sales are included in the Whites’ current financial year.

Former CBS journalist, Jacobs feels that – if the club sell star forward Crysencio Summerville – their books will not require much more work to balance.

Speaking on the Just Joe Football Show (11 June), he said: “There is an acceptance in the Leeds hierarchy that there is some pressure financially to balance the books, but then again when you look at the current financial year yet to be declared, you have a boost on the books from the Adams and Sinisterra departures.

“Some sources within Leeds say rather than looking at £100million in sales, which maybe Summerville can be a third of that, you should be deducting the Adams and Sinisterra [fees], so they’re not in as much financial hot water as has been painted regarding those outgoings.”

Can Leeds United afford to keep their best players?

There is little doubt that Leeds’ failure to earn promotion back to the Premier League will have a fairly significant impact on their summer transfer dealings.

The Whites have missed out on the riches that come with top-flight status and it is expected that the level of turnover in the squad will be greater than it would have been had promotion been achieved.

Despite that, the fact that the sales of Adams and Sinisterra to Bournemouth are included in the club’s latest financial year should strengthen their position with regards to keeping hold of more of their best players.

Additionally, their shirt sponsorship deal with Red Bull will also help to ease the burden.

Championship Player of the Season Summerville, 22, is arguably the club’s most saleable asset and it may make more sense to earn a big fee from one departure than to gut the squad and be forced into a complicated rebuild.

The greatest benefit to Daniel Farke’s side will be their increased capacity to fend off potential interest in Archie Gray – who Leeds fans will hope can stay put for a good while longer.
