Stuart Webber to Leeds United update emerges as Rangers stance on hiring exit-bound Norwich City chief detailed

Rangers are not interested in hiring Stuart Webber as their new sporting director amid speculation linking him with Leeds United, according to Football Scotland.

The Sun reported on 29 October that Leeds and Rangers are keen to hire the 39-year-old, who’s set to leave his role as director of football at Norwich City in the coming days.

It is understood that Webber was initially going to stay for the rest of 2023 after handing in his notice in June but he can now leave Carrow Road early.

Football Scotland, however, claimed on 2 November that Rangers are not pursuing the Welshman to replace Ross Wilson as their sporting director after he left Ibrox for Nottingham Forest at the end of last season.

Sort it out ASAP

Leeds need to stop dragging their heels with their pursuit of a new director of football to replace Victor Orta.

It’s been six months since the Spaniard left Elland Road and we’re now less than two months away from the January transfer window opening.

Leeds might not be suitably prepared for that window if they don’t have someone in place on a permanent basis because what if someone comes in with a huge bid for a player like Georginio Rutter or Crysencio Summerville? What if something that cannot be refused emerges and we’re left high and dry looking for a replacement?

Leeds hired Nick Hammond as an interim football advisor in the summer while Gretar Steinsson was brought in as a technical director and they, along with Daniel Farke, did well in the summer transfer window despite being hampered by a glut of loan exit clauses.

Is Hammond still at the club? Can Steinsson get us through January?

Just hire Webber. It makes perfect sense.

In other Leeds United news, this striker has been dropped to the Under-21s squad by Farke.
