Steven Gerrard has reservations about taking Leeds United managers job as search continues
Leeds United have noted the availability of Steven Gerrard for their vacant manager’s role, but he has reservations about the job according to the Daily Mail.
The Whites are over a week into their hunt for a new manager after sacking Jesse Marsch (6 February), and having not been able to appoint any of initial targets Carlos Corberan, Arne Slot, Andoni Iraola or Mauricio Pochettino.
But after ruling ex-Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder out of the running, the club are now looking at alternative managerial options and Gerrard is among them alongside his assistant former Elland Road hero Gary McAllister.

“Talks are ongoing with a number of candidates as the club assess whether an interim appointment until the end of the season is the best course of action,” they wrote (13 February).
“While Steven Gerrard’s availability, alongside former Leeds favourite Gary McAllister, has also been noted, though the former Villa boss is understood to have reservations.”
Oh dear
It seemed as though Leeds were being quite selective about our managerial choices and going for top candidates with a proven record.
But to look at Gerrard is most certainly a down or backwards step, and the fact he isn’t sure about taking the job tells you a lot about the position we’re in right now.
He’s unemployed, and has a point to prove after being sacked by Aston Villa earlier this season despite winning the league with Rangers in 2020/21 to break Celtic’s dominance in the SPFL.

However his reputation has taken a hit and it could be seen that Leeds is too big of a gamble for him, considering his status as one of England’s best midfielders ever and the fact he wants to push on and become a top manager.
A relegation on his CV wouldn’t look great, so it’s arguably more of a selfish decision rather than anything at Leeds, but it’s probably for the best that he doesn’t come in anyway considering his Premier League record as a boss.
