Sky Sports pundit blasts ‘absolutely awful’ Leeds United planning amid managerial situation

Leeds United have been blasted by Sky Sports pundit Stephen Warnock for not having a new manager lined up to replace Jesse Marsch.

The Whites fell into the relegation zone after defeat to Everton on Saturday (18 February), meaning they’ve not won a game since sacking the American and installing Michael Skubala as caretaker boss in his absence.

And former Liverpool defender Warnock told Sky Sports (20 February) that the decision not to have someone ready to takeover from Marsch could cost them in their battle against relegation.

“Don’t understand this at all, I really don’t understand how you can sack a manager and not have a contingency plan,” he said.

“Not have something arranged where you know. I think as soon as you hire a manager, you should already be looking at your next manager. You can’t think this guy is going to be here for the next ten years or whatever. You’ve got to think worst case scenario.

“Yes you’ll want to back him, but you’ve got to think if this does not work out what are our next options? Where can we turn to?

“To hear the rumours of Jesse Marsch was lined up a long time before sacking Marcelo Bielsa, they knew he was the replacement. Why is it not the same this time? Why haven’t they had that place in place to say if Jesse Marsch goes, we all knew their form, we all saw how they’re playing and knew the fans weren’t happy at all.

“How they’ve not had a plan in place, this could cost them down the line. This is absolutely awful planning from Leeds United as a team, as a club.”

Shocking

Leeds fans have been demanding that the board be sacked or at least be called out for their incompetence, and now everyone is seeing why.

Leeds United

It was clear to a lot of people that Marsch wasn’t the right man a while ago, but the club refused to fold and backed him for as long as they could before it couldn’t be defended anymore.

They backed him heavily in the January window just to sack him less than a week after it closed, and with nobody ready to step in the club have been made to look foolish.

Alfred Schreuder’s appointment never took off, and that came after rejections from Carlos Corberan, Arne Slot and Marcelo Gallardo.

Now Michael Skubala is in a hole that he can’t climb out of, and that he had no reason to be in, and Leeds are in big trouble if something doesn’t change quickly at Elland Road.
