Simon Jordan accuses Leeds United of ‘Shakedown’ amid £300m Everton legal case

Simon Jordan believes the £300m compensation claim against Everton by Leeds, Leicester and Burnley is a “shakedown” and they’re “wasting their time”.

The Whites are set to push ahead with a compensation claim after the Toffees were hit with a 10-point penalty for breaching profit and sustainability rules.

But while ontalkSPORT (22 November, 11:51) Jim White asked “how likely is it?” that the five teams are successful in claiming against Everton and Jordan was baffled that there was even a case to answer.

“None,” he said. “Why is the argument limited to four or five clubs? Because there have been nine clubs relegated during that period. So why isn’t there nine clubs coming in?

“And which part of the £20m overspend was spent in which particular season and affected which particular club?

“The conundrum here is that there is a lot of noise in the newspapers about there’s going to be hundreds of millions in potential compensation because of the implications of this. It’s not going to happen. It’s not going to happen.

“It’s one thing being given leave to appeal, many people have been given leave to appeal in court cases,” he said. “Iain Dowie was given leave to appeal in a court case against me, that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have had his back side smacked again, just because one person wants to abdicate responsibility from closing all avenues.

“I think they’re wasting their time. I think they might get a shakedown.

“I think they might shake down a bit of aggravation and Everton might turn round and say we’ll give you two or three million quid or something of that nature. I do not see this as something that is going to get anywhere near the cost implications of relegation and I’d be gobsmacked if it got even within a whiff of millions of pounds.”

Sensible

It’s quite a different case to anything we’ve seen in the past, so the way Jordan is reacting as if this is something that happens every day is very weird.

But with that said he is probably right, despite the fact the independent commission believe there is a case to answer.

Leeds were relegated last season because of awful performances on the pitch, not because Everton spent extra money on their stadium and the independent commission also stated in their report that there was no sporting advantage earned.

Realistically the Whites need to just move on from this whole scenario, because there is an argument to be had that as a club we’re in a far better situation than them right now even though we’re in the Championship.

Lets leave it in the past because we’re not going to get reinstated to the league because of whatever happens, and lets put all our focus into the push for promotion to be back in the top flight next season.
