New Leeds United owners San Francisco 49ers are reportedly very keen on hiring ex Celtic and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

According to the Athletic journalist Phil Hay [9 June], the indications are that the 50-year-old is not tempted to work in the Championship.

There have been other candidates under discussion and with the takeover going through, the process should materialise quickly now.

Hay wrote, "49ers Enterprises, having briefly contemplated making an offer to bring back Marcelo Bielsa, is very keen on Brendan Rodgers but the indications are that the Northern Irishman is not tempted to work in the Championship.

"Other candidates have been under discussion too — Carlos Corberan, Scott Parker, Steven Gerrard, Daniel Farke — and that list of names suggests the club are minded to go with a fairly obvious option, rather than gambling on something unexpected or serving up a bona fide show-stopper.

"Whatever 49ers Enterprises decides, an appointment should materialise rapidly now."

Surprising

Rodgers was getting relegated with Leicester and if they had decided to keep him then he would've been managing in the Championship.

He may have Liverpool on his CV and two league titles he's won with Celtic, but he needs to realise that his stock is not at a high right now.

Leeds might be the perfect fit as it would be the ideal match for two fallen giants looking to be given a second chance to rise.

With new owners wanting him, he can go in with a very specific set of demands and most of those are likely to be met by the club.

It remains to be seen if Paraag Marathe or whoever's in charge of recruitment, can convince the former Premier League manager to take over at Elland Road.

Of the other names that have been mentioned above, this is by far the best fit and they must do all they can to bring him home.
