Phil Hay updates on Nick Hammond status at Leeds after Gretar Steinsson development
Nick Hammond is set to remain with Leeds United for the time being following the appointment of Gretar Steinsson, according to Phil Hay.
The Athletic journalist reported via Twitter (17 July) that Hammond will remain with the club on a short-term contract following Steinsson’s arrival.
Hammond was appointed following Victor Orta’s departure in May on a short-term basis to oversee the club’s summer transfer activity.
Leeds originally planned to appoint Orta’s replacement once the transfer window had closed, as per The Athletic (17 July).
However, Steinsson’s arrival seems to have brought that timeframe forward although it is not yet clear exactly what role he will fill.
Moving on
It seems as if the club are finally beginning to restructure the backroom hierarchy amid the impending 49ers Enterprises takeover, even if not all the details are completely clear.
With Hammond having been brought in on a short-term basis to replace Orta, it remains to be seen exactly what his role with the club will now entail following the appointment of Steinsson.
Steinsson’s role itself is also not completely apparent at this moment in time although it is likely that he will be Orta’s long-term replacement while Hammond was just a short-term one.

The two will most likely work together to get the club through the current transfer window before Steinsson begins to take on more responsibility himself once the new season gets underway and attention switches to January.
Leeds are potentially set to widen their football operations in order to prevent one person from having full responsibility and this appointment could be the first step in this process.
In other Leeds United news, the club are now favourites to sign a new goalkeeper.
