Leeds United takeover update emerges Sunday night as EFL ‘finally’ set for action on 49ers deal

The 49ers’ takeover of Leeds United is set to be “finally confirmed” by the EFL after weeks of waiting for ratification, according to the Daily Mail.

The American enterprises buy-out of Andrea Radrizzani was eventually agreed on 9 June, itself almost a fortnight after relegation was confirmed, before the league then had to carry out checks on all the relevant parties before it could be officially confirmed.

The appointment of Daniel Farke had been held up as the Whites hoped the green light would arrive from the league first, until the German was announced on 4 July in order to get him in place for the start of preseason training.

At last it appears that the ratification process is now almost complete, with developments at the executive reportedly on the way imminently.

According to Mike Keegan in the Mail on Sunday night (16 July): “Leeds’s takeover by 49ers Enterprises is set to [be] finally confirmed by the EFL in the near future.”

Long-awaited

As Phil Hay has pointed out on a number of occasions recently, the delay in sale being made official was a product of the late agreement between Radrizzani and the 49ers as much as any dragging of the feet at the EFL.

It has clearly taken longer than was expected at Elland Road, as there was a hope that the deal would be cleared two weeks ago at the latest.

As with everything this summer it will be better late than never once it is finally announced, and supporters will have to hope that incoming transfers can start to flow once it is.

In name if not practice Radrizzani has remained in charge, and while the club was reluctant to do so it is evident that moves have been possible despite the complicated situation.

Farke came in after a short-term appointment for Nick Hammond, and first-team exits have begun to mount up since the manager arrived.

But the fanbase wants to see who the German might bring in to be a part of his quest for a third Championship crown, following two at Norwich, so if signings have been waiting on the takeover it appears that barrier is now set to be removed at long last.

In other Leeds United news, a fee as low as £4million might now be enough to land an “outstanding” player the Whites want to sign.
