Leeds United set to approach Andoni Iraola in summer for vacant managers job

Leeds United are set to return for top candidate Andoni Iraola in the summer with an offer to make him the club’s manager, according to the Daily Mail

The Whites confirmed on Tuesday (14 February) that Michael Skubala will remain in charge of the team for the upcoming fixtures with Everton and Southampton, after they struggled to find someone to replace Jesse Marsch.

Rayo Vallecano boss Iraola was among the top candidates for the role immediately but his club blocked any move, and with his current contract set to expire in the summer with the La Liga club Leeds are now set to try again to bring him in during the summer.

“Andoni Iraola was the first choice of director of football Victor Orta, but extracting him from his Rayo Vallecano contract proved problematic,” they wrote (14 February).

“Leeds are set to revisit a move for one of their top targets at the end of the season, most likely Iraola.”

Trouble brewing

Skubala did a great job in his two games against Manchester United, but it’s relatively easy to do that in game where expectations were low to begin with.

One point from two games has somehow been deemed a good enough return to not make appointing a new manager a priority right now, despite Jesse Marsch being sacked for not getting results.

If the club are now turning their attentions to bringing managers in during the summer, it suggests Skubala will be in charge for the rest of the season and that is a problem.

When the “new manager bounce” equals out and we start playing in games where we’re supposed to be favourites to win, that’s when we’ll really see how Skubala matches up.

We’re right behind him and obviously are hoping that he can turn things around to get us up the table and out of trouble, but we’re a couple of bad results away from genuine trouble and with no replacements lined up for now it’s hard not to be worried.
