Leeds United sack Jesse Marsch

Jesse Marsch has been sacked as manager of Leeds United after the club’s miserable run of form, according to Alvaro de Grado.

After heavy spending in the January transfer window the Whites still lost 1-0 at Nottingham Forest on Sunday (5 February) meaning the American had not won a Premier League game since November, a run of seven matches.

He was appointed to replace legendary Elland Road boss Marcelo Bielsa just over a year ago, but according to Spanish reporter De Grado he hasn’t made it 12 months in charge.

Reporting on Twitter on Monday afternoon (6 February) the DAZN journalist wrote: “Jesse Marsch, sacked by Leeds. Winless since November and one place above relegation.”

Wow

This is a massive development if this has happened now, just after what looked like an impressive January transfer window.

Excuses have run out for the lack of wins after the squad was strengthened significantly last month, but as with so many games of late Leeds United dominated possession at the City Ground and still came away with nothing.

That has left the Whites slap bang in the middle of another relegation battle, and the more games go by with the team a work in progress the more trouble they are in.

The hierarchy have previously been at pains to support Marsch, after he came under pressure prior to the World Cup, but it appears patience has run out.

The former Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig man has been supported with multiple signings from his previous clubs, yet he has never seemed to find a settled run of form.

Fans in the stands at the weekend had clearly had enough, chanting for him to go, and this report suggests that those in charge have decided to take heed.

In other Leeds United news, a new contract for one first team ace will not be what he hoped for after Phil Hay’s latest update.
