Leeds United: Premier League legal team ‘lined up’ after latest Everton development
The Premier League’s legal team are braced for battles from any of Luton, Brentford, Leicester, Leeds United or Southampton after the points deductions given to Everton this season.
According to Yasin Patel, a sports lawyer at Church Court Chambers, legal claims from last year’s relegated teams cannot be ruled out after the losses they felt as a result.
This comes after Everton were handed a second points deduction, with the possibility of a third, in a reminder that the Toffees appeared to have cheated Leeds and Leicester out of Premier League survival.
Speaking to the i [10 April], Patel explained: “The Premier League have got their legal team lined up for legal battles, whether it be from Luton, Brentford, Everton or Leicester.
“I wouldn’t rule out legal arguments from Leicester and other clubs that went down last year because ultimately they’ve suffered, given Everton’s points deductions should’ve been done last season.
“They may have been playing in the Premier League this season and they will have incurred losses because of that.”
Leeds United & 49ers Enterprises in Premier League legal battle
After Everton were initially reported to be investigated by the Premier League, it was made clear that Leeds would be among those clubs vying for compensation following what was seen as an unfair advantage which saw the Yorkshire club relegated.
It was said that Leeds, alongside Burnley and Leicester, were looking into claiming a combined £300million in damages, although the case was later dropped, but it now appears legal action remains on the cards at Elland Road.
49ers Enterprises haven’t shied away from legal battles since taking over at Elland Road, and with the Premier League seemingly preparing for battle in the courts, Leeds’ lawyers may have to be primed in case of action.

Suppose it does go as far as legal action. In that case, Leeds are unlikely to be alone, with six other clubs: Brentford, Luton, Leicester, Nottingham Forest and Burnley, all named by the i as clubs considering taking action against the Premier League.
In other Leeds United news, Kalvin Phillips has been told to return to Elland Road this summer.
