Leeds United news as 49ers documents set to drop at Companies House

Phil Hay is expecting the situation surrounding the ownership of Elland Road to change once new documents are received by Companies House from Leeds United and the 49ers Enterprises.

As things stand on paper, Elland Road is still owned by previous Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani, as shared in documents revealed by Kieran Maguire on Twitter [10 October], but 49ers Enterprises are expected to assume control.

Hay shared that he expects the stadium ownership to change hands when the new paperwork drops at Companies House, the government branch dealing with company ownership.

Another positive update

Since the 49ers took control of the club in the summer, there have been plenty of positive steps taken towards securing not just the future of the club, but the present situation as well.

Securing the ownership of the stadium into the hands of the current ownership will allow for a more stable and settled model, rather than the 49ers essentially paying rent to Radrizzani as was the case until now.

Kieran Maguire shared that the lease, which doesn’t expire until 2032, showed Elland Road Ltd (the company previously under Radrizzani but now the 49ers’) was charging Leeds United £1.7million per year in rent.

The purchase of the stadium is a huge step forward for the club, particularly with concerns surrounding Radrizzani’s control after he had offered to use Elland Road as collateral in securing a £26million loan when he purchased Serie A club Sampdoria in the summer [The Athletic, 1 June].

Now, though, fans should be able to rest assured knowing they will finally be rid of their previous owner, with 49ers Enterprises eventually taking full control of the club’s assets.
