Leeds United manager update: Larry Nance Jr responds to question over next Elland Road appointment

Larry Nance Jr has pointed out that he has “zero say” in who the next Leeds United manager will be after a question from a fan online.

The New Orleans Pelicans player announced that he was part of the new 49ers ownership group on 9 June after the announcement of the sale agreement from Andrea Radrizzani.

But with the appointment of the new manager seen as the top priority now that the takeover deal has been struck the American claims he has as much insight as the supporters who are waiting on the next move.

Responding to a question via Twitter on Monday night (12 June) Nance Jr wrote: “I have ZERO say in who our next manager will be guys lol I’m waiting and reading articles just like you all.”

Crucial

With Steven Gerrard apparently heading to Saudi Arabia [Romain Molina, 12 June], Scott Parker one of the favourites for the Leicester City job [The Sun, 11 June], and Brendan Rodgers heavily linked to a return to Celtic [Daily Mail, 13 June], names that have been mooted for Leeds United are thinning out.

That was perhaps inevitable given the head start most other clubs had on the Whites while the ownership negotiations dragged on.

And for certain names it is probably somewhat of a relief to fans that they look to be out of the running to take over at Elland Road.

But it is a question that needs answering quickly in order to start drawing up plans to push for promotion next season.

Carlos Corberan and Daniel Farke have both been mentioned as candidates by Phil Hay in The Athletic (9 June), with CEO Angus Kinnear having been working in the background ahead of the takeover announcement, and would seem to have the sort of Championship ability that the Whites surely need to navigate their way out of the second tier as soon as possible.

What the reign of either would actually look like back in the Premier League will have to be a question for another day, but with options starting to dwindle the fanbase, and by the looks of things Nance Jr, might be getting edgy.

In other Leeds United news, Kieran Maguire has reported that there is doubt within the 49ers group over the takeover after “expensive” relegation.
