Leeds United manager news as Alfred Schreuder shown round Thorp Arch

Alfred Schreuder has already been shown around Thorp Arch as Leeds United step up their hunt to replace Jesse Marsch, according to Alkass Digital.

The Qatari news outlet, followed by reliable journalist Tancredi Palmieri on Twitter, tweeted on Monday (13 February) that Schreuder was shown around our facilities on the same day he watched the 2-0 loss to Man United at Elland Road (12 February).

It is claimed the club have opened “initial talks” with the former Ajax boss, who has been out of the job since being sacked by the Dutch giants on 26 January.

After failing to land their initial targets, Schreuder is now the clear favourite to take the hot seat at Elland Road.

If negotiations are concluded quickly, he could take charge against Everton on Saturday (18 February).

Deal all but done

If this report is correct, it would be the clearest sign yet that Schreuder is set to replace Marsch.

Andrea Radrizzani has his own links to Qatar and was spotted with Qatari billionaire Al-Khelaifi at last year’s World Cup, which may speak to the reliability of this outlet.

After failing to attract the club’s top targets, it seems the club will have to settle for a recently-sacked manager whose appointment is already splitting the fanbase.

One glance at Leeds United Twitter will show you plenty of vocal fans railing against an appointment that is yet to be made.

It would certainly be a surprise to see the club end negotiations after sitting a managerial candidate in Elland Road for one of the most high-profile games of the season and showing him around the training ground.

The club needs some clarity on the managerial situation before this weekend’s mammoth clash against Everton.

Whether he is the right appointment or not remains to be seen.
