Leeds United: Kieran Maguire shares £190m transfer update as documents emerge at Elland Road

Leeds United owe other teams £190million in transfer fee instalments from previous player purchases, according to Kieran Maguire.

The football finance expert reported via X on Wednesday (10 April) that the Whites were relegated with a side that cost £381million, but according to their latest accounts still owe other teams a total of £190million in instalments.

Despite the massive amount of money owed to other teams around the world, Daniel Farke’s side are only set to receive £2million from their previous player sales having barely offset their spending in the transfer window.

Writing on X on Wednesday (10 April) he said: “Leeds owe other clubs a Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the wee donkey £190m in transfer fee instalments on player purchases but only due to receive £2m on player sales.”

Will Leeds United be hit with FFP punishment if promoted to the Premier League?

It is clear from Maguire’s assessment that Leeds United have spent recklessly in the past and these latest accounts suggest that the Whites are still feeling the effects of their spending while in the Premier League.

To still owe £190million is nothing short of mental and makes you wonder how much money the Whites have already spent on the players that they have signed in previous windows, or how much has been offset to future add-ons.

No matter what division Leeds find themselves in next season, they need to start selling players permanently as it is clear from Maguire’s findings that the outgoing and the incoming are incredibly offset currently.

There have been reports that Leeds could be at risk of breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules if they are promoted this term [i News, 12 March] and it is easy to see why with these latest figures.

Hopefully, the good work behind the scenes at Elland Road will continue to level out these accounts and reduce PSR fears at Elland Road.
